Megan Paige’s debut single “Best I Never Had” is a song that is about to take her music career and put it onto a whole new level. Written By Matt McVaney, Grammy nominated country star Cassadee Pope, and Grammy winning songwriter Emily Weisband, as well as being produced by CCMA multiple award winning Travis Switzer, this dreamy country song is one that you will be playing everywhere you go.
Megan fell in love with music from the inspiration of her elementary school music teacher. The teacher pushed her into finding her talent and lit a flame for Megan’s lifelong musical passions. Growing up in a rural community, close connections were incredibly strong with all of her peers in her area. These connections made Megan love the idea of being close to people, and this song is something that she hopes will make people feel connected to her.
This song had numerous talented music personalities working on it which contributed to its excellence. Award winning musicians like Kris Ulrich (electric/acoustic guitar), Matthew Atkins (Drums), Jesse Peters (Keys/synth), Mitch Jay (Banjo), and Stacey Lee Guse (harmony vocals), brought the melody of the song to life, as well as CCMA Hall of Honour Inductee Travis Switzer who produced the amazing song and also played bass on the track. Along with those great musicians, top tier song makers like Brendan Lyons (engineering), Brock McFarlane (Mastering), and CCMA and Juno award winning Bart Mckay (Mixing), were essential in the process of creating this project, as they pushed the song to its upmost potential. The actual song itself obviously could not have been possible without the majorly established songwriters who wrote it.
The song is one that holds such a relatability as it references the feeling of loving someone who is your ideal person, but not knowing whether or not that feeling would be reciprocated. The verses of the song are focused on the idea of dreaming about being with an ideal person from the past, which leads into questioning the possibility of whether or not that relationship could work with different circumstances. The story is really portrayed in the song with the line “I know you got someone and so do I, but there are times I’d still wonder what it’d be like,” as it builds the dynamic of the vocals and melody, and specifically mentions the idea of being in love with someone, but not being able to be with them no matter how much your heart desires. The combination of relatable lyrics, and a captivating country melody really brings the song together and will get the catchy song stuck in your head.
When Megan first heard the song, she related to it so much from some of her own experiences, and that really led her to falling in love with it. She is excited that she is not only pursuing her dreams through this song, but that she gets to connect with people through music as well her own shared experiences. Megan is so excited to take this major step in her music career, and she hopes that “Best I Never Had” ends up being the best song that you’ve ever heard.
