The Canadian Grain Commission is updating its official grain grading guide.
They said they’re doing this to better meet the needs of the agriculture sector in Canada and grain buyers around the world.
One of the big changes focuses on wheat classes as the commission is aiming to better align the primary and export tolerances for test weight and total foreign material.
They’re also planning to update the definition of certain terms like severely sprouted western wheat, processed sample, and dockage process when it comes to canola.
“The Canadian Grain Commission is pleased to implement these science-based updates to our Official Grain Grading Guide following extensive discussions with the sector,” said Doug Chorney, Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Grain Commission. These changes support the modernization of our grading system and will help grow the Canadian grain sector and maintain Canada’s reputation for high-quality grain.”
These changes are set to take effect on Aug. 1, 2023.
