It’s been three years since folks in Tisdale and the surrounding area have had the opportunity to “rock the square”.
Thankfully, for those who have missed the event which features Canadian artists performing an outdoor concert, the “rockin” has returned.
Friday from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m., will feature a trio of bands in the heart of Tisdale, as they sing their hearts out.
The annual celebration is put on by the Tisdale Chamber of Commerce and its Executive Director Niki Beatty told northeastNOW how much this celebration has been truly missed by the community.
“It’s nice to be able to be out and about again. We just want stuff to be open again and we want the community to be able to go out and be together again. It’s been a hard couple of years for everybody, so it’s nice to see the support of Tisdale and the surrounding area. Everybody always has a good time when they come out, so it will be nice to see it again.”
The festivities are used as a way for the Chamber to support community projects and initiatives, as all proceeds raised, after costs, will go towards sponsorships to be put back into the town.
Things such as the Kinsmen and Kinette skate park, concessions at the ball diamonds and fairgrounds, town signs and the street fair are all prior examples of this event that has helped raise money.
“It’s just nice to have that extra thing that different businesses and organizations can apply for every year, depending on how the funds are sitting. We then have a board that meets and decides who we are going to sponsor for the year,” added Beatty
Local band BarFly will open the event, with Sweet Tequila (from Alberta) to follow and Gong Show (from Saskatoon) to follow.
According to the Chamber of Commerce, they were unable to acquire some of the larger bands they have acquired in the past because their funds have been shrunk, due to the cancellation of the prior two concerts during the pandemic. Their hope is that with a successful celebration this year, funds will be slightly increased and ‘more sought after/popular bands’ will once again be included in the future.
When asked for one final comment, Beatty had only one thing to mention.
“We would just really like to see the community out and we’re excited to rock the square again.”
