The Melfort Mustangs have announced a commitment for the third day in a row, this time adding Will Porter for the 2023-24 season.
The 2005-born forward has spent the last two seasons with the Lloydminster Bobcats U18 AAA club in the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL).
In 17 games this season, the Lloydminster, Sask., product, has scored seven goals and added five assists for 12 points.
“Will plays the game with a complete motor shift in and shift out,” said Mustangs head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins. “His offensive abilities along with his responsible play will transfer well to the SJHL.”
Porter and the Bobcats were also at this winter’s Circle K Classic tournament in Calgary, where in three games, he scored twice and added a helper.
The 6-foot-1, 174-pound forward also spent last season with his hometown team, playing in 30 games and registering 17 points, after scoring eight times and adding nine helpers. During that time he got a call-up to the Olds Grizzlys of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), suiting up twice.
Meanwhile, back in 2019/2020, Porter was a member of the U15 AA Lakeland Panthers in the Northern Alberta Hockey League.
He was second in the league in both goals and points, with 56 and 90 respectively. He also had 34 assists.
Porter joins Austin Shepherd, Luc Fortier who committed this week, as well as Edward Knittig who the Mustangs committed to last week.
